“…by grace are ye saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. “

Ephesians 2:8

Grace is the result of unmerited goodness of God poured down, or disposed at people who did not expect it, people who did not merit it, and/or people who did not deserve it. Though considered to be highly favored by God, Jews failed to recognize the epic of God’s love in the coming of The Messiah, Jesus Christ. They rejected Him and crucified Him. His resurrection gave birth to Christianity, the world’s largest faith, opening the door of God’s grace to the gentiles and all that are far away.

Yes, God’s grace is enough!

Rudy Giuliani, KBE, was the Mayor of New York City during the September 11, 2001 terrorist plane attacks on some vital targets in the United States of America. It was reported that Mayor Giuliani, whose office was housed within the World Trade Center towers, may have been in tower 7 on the day of the attacks, but left the building moments before the collapse of the structure. He was not in any way smarter or better-off than those who perished with the collapsed building, it was the unmerited grace of God upon his life.

Northwest Airlines Flight 253 was flying on international route from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, to Detroit, United States of America, on Christmas Day, December 25, 2009 with 290 people on board. Unknown to the people on board was that another passenger, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was carrying explosives in his body. This passenger had beaten the security agents prior to his entry into the plane.

A little while before arrival in Detroit, the terrorist attempted to detonate the explosives in his body, but there were malfunctions in the device. The explosives failed to explode, but caused a burning fire upon him. The attacker was overpowered and arrested, saving the lives of 290 passengers shortly before safe landing in Detroit. If not for the grace of God, two hundred and ninety lives would have been lost. Many families, organizations and institutions would have been affected. Though the people on board did not deserve to die through terrorist attack, but death was already hovering over their head as long as the terrorist succeeded in carrying explosives into the aircraft. However, the grace of God prevented the successful detonation of the explosives, and saved the lives of every occupant. You will recall that passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 that crashed into Shanksville, Pennsylvania as part of the 9/11 attacks were not that fortunate.

Yes, God’s grace is sufficient!

The grace of God is always a special gift realized as undeserved favor that could only come from no one else but Him. This explains the rational for the greatest gift of God to humanity – Jesus Christ. The Bible explains God’s plan to save people after the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Satan deceived Eve, and caused the fall of Adam and Eve, the fall of man. From the time of the first deception of Eve, Satan has been very busy with the game of deception to lure man away from the way of God. Satan was jealous of the power given to man before the fall. He does not want man to go to Heaven, to a life of joy and happiness throughout eternity. His design was to take as many men as possible with him into Hell, his last abode.

As man improves in knowledge and excels in accomplishments, he is tempted by the devil to look upon self, and see less of God’s guidance in his affairs. God’s blessings and endowments are selfishly attributed to the personal accomplishments and smartness of man. Man would prefer to do things in his own way – “I did it my way”, and not according to the way of God.

Albert Einstein emerged as one of the biggest names in science till this day. He wrote profusely on ethical culture, and would not vouch convincingly on the existence of God, even though he had a rich Jewish background.

Charles Darwin introduced the theory of evolution, transformed the way we think about the natural world, casting doubts on God’s creative power of the Earth and the universe.  He gained fame and worldly acclamation instantaneously.

Voltaire (Francois Marie-Arouet) was a respected French philosopher who believed that human beings are basically evil and need to be treated that way. He promoted religious freedom and social reform. He spoke out against the French government and the Roman Catholic Church.

Upon the successful launch of Manhattan Project’s artificial nuclear explosion on July 16, 1945, on a site codenamed “Trinity” by Project leader, Robert J. Oppenheimer, the renowned scientist was quoted as saying “I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;” (1 Co. 1: 29).

Right from the family of Adam, God has always demonstrated His grace among all men. Grace is unmerited favor which makes man important. However, unlike the exemplary lifestyle of favored Joseph, who rose from prison to become the ruler of Egypt, most men would underestimate and underrate fellow-men that were less favored. For control and direction to appropriate His grace as a full measure of following Him, serving Him, and living with Him in eternity after death on Earth, God gave man the Ten Commandments. This is also a document of grace and principle of life for all men to walk close with God.

The Scarlet Thread of Redemption

After more than four hundred years of bondage in Egypt, the children of Israel cried unto God for deliverance.  Moses was sent out of grace to deliver them and lead them into the Promised Land in Canaan. With mighty power and love, God gave Palestine and all of Canaan to the children of Israel. Disbelieve and faithlessness made them incapable to dislodge the pagan nations in those territories.

Israel rejected to serve God, and went into idolatry. However, sinners who forsook their evil ways were accepted and blessed by God. Rahab, the harlot from Jericho believed in the report she heard about God, acted upon that faith, and was rewarded beyond measure. Rahab and her family escaped the destruction of Jericho, became an ancestress of David in the Messianic line of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

After much suffering and losses in the land of Moab, the grace of God rebound in the life of Naomi, and her daughter-in-law, Ruth. Ruth departed from the pagan life of Moab, and followed her mother-in-law, Naomi, into Israel. Though a gentile, she served God faithfully and was favored by God.

The failure of the children of Israel to come out of idolatry concerned God. He needed a set of people who would do His will and prove to sinful world that His way was simple, and His commandments were not cumbersome as Satan has presented it to be.

Jesus was sent to save his people from their sins. (Mat. 1:21)

He came to save man from death, that was caused by sin. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.John 3 16.  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Rom. 6: 23.

God’s grace is hereby shown to be sufficient, and provided the all-encompassing plan for deliverance from disobedience, sin and death. Jesus Christ became the complete grace of God for salvation, justification, full redemption, and transition into everlasting life.

By reading the Bible we learn of God and understand Christ’s plan of salvation. We are saved by grace, full and free through faith, believing the Word of truth. Our recognition of God’s blessing leads to confession of sins and shortcomings, leading to a transformed life of faith on God, and his plan, to be with Him after death in Heaven.

For out of His fullness we all received one grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing, and even favor upon favor and gift upon gift. For while the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:16,17,

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt!
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilled.

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!
